Travel information

Krems an der Donau can be easily reached by plane, then by train or car.

Arriving by plane:

The nearest airport to Krems is Vienna International Airport Schwechat. Other international airports in Austria are Linz, Salzburg, Graz or Innsbruck. Budget flights from various destinations are available to Bratislava airport. Train or bus transfers from Bratislava to Vienna bus terminal are approximately 1 hour.

Arriving by train:

From Vienna

Trains from Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof
You can get to this station by using the underground line U4 stopping at Friedensbrücke. Trains from Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof also stop and can be boarded at  Wien-Spittelau Bahnhof which you can get to by using the underground line U6 or the U4. Trains from Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof to Krems stop at Wien Spittelau, Wien Heiligenstadt, Tulln, Absdorf-Hippersdorf, Kirchberg am Wagram & Hadersdorf, then Krems.
Travel time: about 1 hour for the direct service.

Trains from Bahnhof Wien Meidling
You can get to this station by using the underground line U6.
Stop at Wien-Nord (Praterstern), Floridsdorf, Korneuburg, Stockerau, at Absdorf-Hippersdorf, change for Krems.
Travel time: about 90 minutes with a change at Absdorf-Hippersdorf.

From St. Pölten

Trains from St. Pölten
stop in Herzogenburg, Statzendorf, Paudorf, Furth-Palt
Travel time: around 30 to 45 minutes, for regional service.

Getting around in Krems:

Krems is a very small town and most locations are in walking distance. Walking distance from Krems main train station to Campus Krems is approx. 15-20 minutes.

Public transport:

There is a local city bus network that connects the historic town with the Campus. Tickets can be purchased directly in the bus or from tobacconists. A single journey is € 2,- and a day ticket costs € 4,-.

Busses from the railway station Krems (Bahnhof Krems) to Campus Krems depart and return regularly. There is also a Shuttle Bus that goes directly from the train station to the main entrance of Campus Krems (5 minutes). In addition to the CityBUS Krems (Line 1 – bus stop IMC-Fachhochschule) that departs regularly, The Campus Shuttle (WL 3), can be used when you arrive by train from Vienna or St. Pölten.

Arriving by car:

1. Coming from Vienna (East):

Coming from Vienna either take the motorway A22 (North) and then S5 towards Krems or the motorway A1 (West) and then the S33 towards Krems. In Krems follow the signposts to the campus.

2. Coming from St. Pölten (West):

Coming from St. Pölten (S33), the capital of Lower Austria, you take exit “Krems Zentrum” and the follow the signposts to the campus.

Parking in Krems:

Around the Campus Krems there is a green zone therefore we recommend all visitors to use the parking facilities at Campus West.

General parking information: Campus Krems is a car-free Campus.

Parking at the green zone is chargeable.
Car park tickets are available at ticket machines or at newsagents and filling/Petrol stations.

Handicapped parking

On Campus Krems handicapped parking is possible (address for navigation system: Alauntalstraße 96  3500 Krems). To use this service please press the button “FH Krems” at the entry system by the bollards.

Entrance to parking garage “Campus West”

Approaching from the B3, at the roundabouts by Stein (ship/boat – stop) and shell filling station follow the (green signs) for Campus Krems follow the road past the Kunsthalle and Stein prison on the right then over the railway level crossing. The entrance of the car park is located on the left hand side.

About the Venue

Krems and the Wachau Valley

Krems  is the eastern gateway to the Wachau Valley, one of Europe’s loveliest river landscapes. It is also one of the oldest cities in the land.
